Automatic Power Transfer for
Critical IT Loads
Vertiv Rack Transfer Switch enables servers, network devices, and other single-corded IT equipment to connect to two independent power sources. When a failure is detected in the primary source, the switch automatically transfers the load to the alternative source in less than 4–8 milliseconds, supporting operational continuity for critical equipment.
Its open-transition, break-before-make architecture transfers the load between primary and secondary sources without requiring phase synchronization. This provides greater flexibility when designing redundant power configurations for data center and edge environments.
Key Features of Vertiv Rack Transfer Switch
Automatic Power Transfer
Automatically transfers the load to the alternative source when the primary power supply is interrupted.
<4–8 ms Transfer Speed
Provides rapid power transfer to help maintain the operation of critical IT equipment.
Dual Power Inputs
Connects to two independent power sources to establish rack-level power redundancy.
Single-Corded Device Protection
Provides a redundant power strategy for equipment with only one power input.
Monitoring and Visibility
Intelligent models provide real-time visibility into rack-level power consumption and operating status.
Flexible Management Options
Upgradeable, monitored, and switched configurations support different levels of power visibility and control.
How Does a Rack Transfer Switch Work?
Vertiv Rack Transfer Switch continuously monitors two independent power inputs. When an issue is detected in the primary source, it automatically transfers the connected load to the secondary source. Its open-transition, break-before-make switching method provides reliable failover for data center and edge locations.
Primary and Secondary Sources Are Connected
Two independent power sources are connected to the rack transfer switch.
Power Status Is Continuously Monitored
The device continuously monitors the condition of the primary power source.
Automatic Transfer Occurs During an Outage
When the primary source is interrupted, the load is transferred to the alternative source in less than 4–8 milliseconds.
Rack Transfer Switch Capabilities
Front-Panel Interface
Provides visual indication of the active power source and system status.
Manual Transfer Support
Supports local or remote manual transfer between power sources for maintenance and operational control.
Combination Outlets
Selected models feature combination C13/C19 outlets that support different equipment power connections without requiring separate outlet configurations.
IDEAL APPLICATIONS
Designed for Critical Single-Corded IT Equipment
Vertiv Rack Transfer Switch is suitable for servers, storage systems, and network equipment that must connect to two separate power sources but have only one power input. It provides a practical rack-level redundancy solution for data centers, edge locations, telecommunications environments, and enterprise IT facilities requiring improved power continuity.
